Award Winning Veg!

Success for the Culverhill school allotment team as we entered the local Iron Acton Horticultural Show and gained 5 first prize certificates as well as a 3rd for our beetroot. We won best long carrots, pears and cooking apples as well as pair of marrows and heaviest marrow! I needed a wheelbarrow to get it all to the car boot. Seasonal produce is currently being passed onto the school kitchen where our head cook Paula and her fab team are preparing it for inclusion in our school dinners. All the fruit and veg is organically produced so it is great for the kids! They also get to try some veg they may not have tried before. Hopefully our corn on the cob will be ready in the next week or so.

In addition we must say a big thank you to Morrisons for supporting us with other potted plants such as tomato, chilli and pepper plants and Sally Clark for some seedling brassicas and our very first artichoke! Morrisons will be pleased to know that one of our pupils managed to grow a sunflower over 9ft tall so well done to Keira and family!

Finally a massive well done to the Allotment team last year of 9CW, who dug, planted and watered no end of times. Fantastic effort and look at what your hard work has achieved. We even had blueberries on our new blueberry bush!
