Update - Statement - School Closure

Update regarding Covid-19 school closure

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are contacting you to update you after the Secretary of State’s announcement yesterday about school closures, vulnerable pupils, pupils with EHCPs and provision for children of ‘Key Workers’.

Government action is focussed on preventing the spread of Covid-19.  However, it is also seeking to provide ‘care’ for children of ‘key workers’ and for pupils with EHCPs.  As all our pupils have EHCPs, we are seeking clarification from the Government about this as our schools cannot operate and provide care for all our pupils safely – due to reduced staffing levels.  For most children, it is likely they will be safer at home, so the advice is confusing.

Our schools will be undergoing a deep clean, and we are exploring the possibility of establishing emergency care provision, in partnership with other agencies and special schools, in order to support key workers, should the advice remain to do so.   We understand that the Department for Education have various task group meetings today to clarify the message from the Secretary of State for Education.  We will update you as soon as we are able to.

We sincerely hope you are able to remain safe and well in these unprecedented and challenging times.

Very best wishes for now,
