The New Buddy System!

This term sees the return of our Peer Mentors. As you may remember last year we had five year eleven students supporting younger children at lunchtimes.

They will help children with friendship issues and generally be on the look out for children needing extra support to play using The Playpod and the play equipment.

This year we have opened it up to year seven and above to give a broad range of children to support others. We now have eight volunteers taking on a new and responsible role.

They have had training and we have also discussed what they would like to see in the playground. They came up with the idea of a “Buddy Stop” where children can go if they are feeling anxious or looking for a friends. They would be identified by one of The Buddy Squad (new name for Peer Mentors) and they will support them in play.

The Buddies will be wearing a light blue hoody so they are easily seen but in the summer thye will probably have a baseball cap.

On Wednesdays all Buddies will be on duty and they will choose a special activity so that lots of children can join in. This will be known as “Wicked Wednesdays”.
