Tour of Ashton Gate Rugby Ground
Year 10 and 11s visit Ashton Gate Rugby Ground
Last week a group of Year 10 and 11 pupils visited Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol Rugby Club, the Bears. The pupils, who had been learning rugby skills during their sports options, were given a guided tour of the stadium, including the hospitality suites and the changing rooms. The pupils were impressed by the quality of the facilities. They even got the chance to line up in the tunnel through which the players enter the pitch.
The pupils were told all about the groundmen's job, including the state of the art ultra-violet light system, used to maintain the grass on the playing field. They also learned about the history of rugby in Bristol and saw a timeline of photographs, stretching back for over one hundred and forty years.
"It was an impressive tour," said Mr Concannon, who accompanied the pupils. "Many of the pupils have visited the grounds, but this was the first time they'd seen behind the scenes and the work involved to maintain the stadium."
