Maths

Throughout our school, we aim to build a sustained culture of deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths; a culture that produces strong, secure learning and real progress. No matter what their starting points, we help our pupils to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world. Our aim is for every student to know that ‘Everyone can do maths’! Through the use of the White Rose Maths scheme, we ensure continuity and progression in our mathematics curriculum.

We’re committed to making a difference to every pupil, through our Inspire curriculum, with access to important mathematical ideas to develop the mathematical knowledge and skills that pupils will draw on in their personal and work lives. Our hope is to shape assured, happy and resilient mathematicians who relish the challenge of maths. Through our Thrive curriculum, pupils will challenge their own thinking, reflect and evaluate, ensuring their skills not only liberate them in maths but also support them across the curriculum and in their quality of life beyond. We will support pupils in seeing that Mathematics is composed of multiple but interrelated and interdependent concepts and structures which students can apply beyond the mathematics classroom and link to other areas of the curriculum.

Through developing pupils’ Using and Applying skills, we will build their resilience in mathematics, so that they can respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematics to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently. Our developing Nurture curriculum, will offer a more tailored basic mathematics programme through a more muti-sensory approach – helping pupils to understand the World around them.
